Munich [ENA] Germany's Goethe Institute offers young journalists, students and recent graduates from Southeast Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand online workshops and production support covering contemporary social media journalism with a focus on underrepresented perspectives and discourses. The program called Vibrant Minds will run from late June 2020 to January 2021. Deadline for applications is 01 June.

The team of lecturers and consultants includes top media practitioners in Germany led by Verena Lammert, initiator and producer of a prominent Instagram channel (“Mädelsabende”); she received the Grimme Online Award, one of the most important recognitions for quality media in Germany. The organizing Goethe institute in Jakarta says that participants will be able to establish partnerships with colleagues from Southeast Asian countries, study advanced online tools and provide content on a selected platform. Applicants will be selected on the basis of criteria including creative approach to the subject, technical implementation, first experiences with social media and proficiency in English.

The workshops will be held mainly via video conferencing and participants, according to Goethe, will benefit from sharing experience and gain new knowledge in the field of social media; professional analysis of social media journalism and target groups; participation in a design sprint; learning about advanced online tools; support in creating and developing “story containers” for social media and a toolkit for professional community building. After the preparatory online workshops from 29 June to 03 July, Goethe expects the selected candidates from August on to work in two-person teams.

They will provide content on the selected platform (e.g. an Instagram channel) to a self-selected but coordinated topic every month until December (5 times in total). This call for participation is open to interested individuals who need to submit a three to five minute video (portrait format) on the “What does Family mean to you?” The Goethe Institute is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. It promotes the study of German abroad and encourages international cultural exchange.
